The
A Fund
A Fund, Inc.
raises funds to provide financial assistance for women who are unable
to pay for abortions.
Our Story:
A Fund, Inc. was founded in 1993 by a handful of Kentucky citizens
who became increasingly aware of the severe crisis many low-income
women experience when faced with the need to terminate a pregnancy.
This small group
established the volunteer- supported A Fund that was incorporated
as a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization. Through the generosity of
other like-minded persons, the A Fund is able to help low-income
women who are facing an unwanted or problem pregnancy.
How
we operate:
The A Fund does not issue funds directly to women. Rather, it works
with a limited group of abortion clinics who refer potential fund
clients and who invoice the A Fund directly for services provided.
When women find their way to the A Fund they are counseled by a
highly skilled volunteer counselor. This counseling helps women
identify and evaluate all the choices, options and resources that
are available and that often have not been considered.
Additional non-financial
related assistance offered by the A Fund has included:
o finding a translator for a non-English speaking client who must
have complex medical terms translated in order to grant informed
consent.
o assisting women who did NOT want to terminate a pregnancy but
who were being pressured into doing so by a parent or significant
other.
o providing transportation to abortion clinics.
o providing temporary housing assistance when traveling from out
of town.
